Call Me By Your Name
This 2017 film, directed by Luca Guadagnino, stars Timothee Chalamet and Armie Hammer. The coming-of-age romance features 17-year-old Elio, who takes a liking to his father’s apprentice. This tale of love, loss, and friendship will warm your heart and make you cry. It also features a beautiful soundtrack with several songs from Sufjan Stevens.
The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself Season One
Nathan is the sixteen-year-old son of the devil. Nathan was born out of wedlock and monitored by several people to ensure that he didn’t follow the same path his evil father had. However, this is a young-adult/coming-of-age show where Nathan leans into his instincts and stumbles upon his true self. Is he like his dad or not like the devil at all?
Land of the Lost
This 2009 film features Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, and Anna Friel as they embark on a time-travel adventure that is as hilarious as it is unbelievable. Ferrell plays a paleontologist, and a scientist determined to find a time-warp at an abandoned amusement park. When his plan works, he and his group enter a land filled with dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures.
Rush Hour 1, Rush Hour 2, and Rush Hour 3
These films star Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, who have to complete a mission to rescue the daughter of a Chinese diplomat. This action-packed thriller is filled with comedy and memorable one-liners. The sequels delve further into other rescue missions.
The second movie follows the duo as they try to figure out who is responsible for a Hong Kong bombing. The third movie in the franchise takes place in Paris, and they try to find out the identity of another criminal mastermind.
Last Seen Alive
This film starred Gerard Butler and earned a whopping 11% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It centers around a couple who go on a road trip together and stop at a gas station. When they are at the gas station, Butler’s character’s wife goes missing.
Naturally, he tells the cops, but they start to think he is guilty of the disappearance. Most critics agreed that the film failed to use three-dimensional characters and instead relied on flat, boring characters that garnered no interest from the viewer.
Jumping From High Places
This Italian film stars Federica Torchetti and Cristiano Caccamo, and it focuses on a 20-something-year-old woman who wants to respect her best friend’s dying wish. The protagonist struggles with deep anxiety, but she overcomes it and gets out into the world, and explores a riveting life of love.
High Water Season One
This show drops on October 5th and the first season of the Polish political drama focuses on Wroclaw’s reaction to a dangerous flood that infiltrates the town. The show comments on the Polish government’s actions and the citizen’s responses. It all takes place in 1997.
Mr. Harrigan’s Phone
This 2023 film is adapted from a Stephen King short story of the same name. It stars Jaeden Martell and Donald Sutherland. Mr. Harrigan is an older gentleman who becomes friends with the teenager he hires. The teenager, Craig, works for Mr. Harrigan all the way up until he dies.
Craig looked to Mr. Harrigan as a mentor, and when he passed away, he saw the body before they buried him. Craig puts Mr. Harrigan’s phone into the coffin, so he has it with him forever. Giving into his grief, Craig texts Mr. Harrigan. Unexpectedly, Mr. Harrigan texts him back.
The Trapped 13: How We Survived The Thai Cave
In 2018 13 boys from the Thai youth soccer team ended up getting trapped inside The Thai Luang Cave. The team and their coach walked into the cave for a fun exploration right after their practice ended. Little did they know heavy rainfall would stream into the cave and trap them inside for over two weeks.
The boys figured out how to navigate through the intricacies of the cave and were eventually rescued. They lived to tell their story in this insightful documentary.
Aftershock: Everest And The Nepal Earthquake
This mini-series filmed in documentary style gives viewers a firsthand look into the deadly Earthquake of 2015. The docuseries uses real footage from the earthquake, and the filmmakers interviewed some survivors that detail their experiences during the traumatic natural disaster. This series comes out on October 6th.
Conversations With a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes
Jeffrey Dahmer is considerably one of the most notorious and grisly serial killers in American history. Society is obsessed with his demented mind.
To feed into that fascination about him, Netflix is releasing this docuseries featuring never before heard interviews and conversations between Dahmer and an interviewer. Through these tapes, he confesses to his murders and goes into detail. Watch with discretion.
The Midnight Club
Mike Flanagan is a renowned name in the horror community. Every October since 2019 (minus 2019) he’s released a horror series on Netflix. With titles like Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass, horror fans trust Flanagan to give them fresh content and exhilarating horror content.
This year, his show, The Midnight Club, focuses on a group of teenage hospice patients that form a group and tell spooky stories. Their friendship depends on one factor: whoever dies first needs to communicate from the afterlife. As Flanagan’s work goes, this is sure to have underlying metaphorical meanings and severe attention to detail.
Dead End: Paranormal Park Season Two
This highly rated horror comedy centers around two teenagers and a pug dog that fight demons at a theme park designed after a haunted house. The catch is that the haunted house theme park has a few hauntings of its own. In addition to the pug dog, Pugsley, a demon named Courtney, fights on behalf of the teenagers.
This group battles demons among other creatures like witches and zombies. The show is funny and quirky and features very positive LGBTQ+ representation. Season two drops on October 13th, so catch up or refresh on the adventures in the first ten episodes.
The Curse Of Bridge Hollow
This new film stars Priah Ferguson of Stranger Things and Marlon Wayans. It tells the story of a father and daughter duo tasked with rescuing their town from an evil force. The demonic presence is no ordinary presence. This film doesn’t focus on ghosts or goblins; rather, it infiltrates Halloween decorations and awakens them.
The Halloween decorations become alive and destroy various parts of the town and cause chaos unless the father and daughter duo can save the day.
Dracula Untold (2014)
This 2014 film stars Luke Evans and Sarah Gadon and speaks about Dracula’s birth into an evil life. Dracula started as a prince who devoted his life to his people.
He is well respected and adored in his country, but when his power is tested, and an enemy tries to enlist his son into the army, he converts from his tame life and turns into the vampire we know today.
Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet Of Curiosities Season One
Guillermo del Toro is a renowned director and author. This anthology show is based on his book of the same title. Each episode provides viewers with a new story of horror. The trailer does not give much away; it just lends some terrifying imagery filled with spiders, creepy crawlies, staircases, dolls, and darkness.
Each story will be narrated by a different beloved horror director, such as Jennifer Kent (The Babadook), Panos Cosmatos (Mandy), and Keith Thomas (The Vigil). Some actors slated for the show include Rupert Grint, Essie Davis, and Eric Andre.
Wendell & Wild
Henry Selick and Jordan Peele teamed up to create this stop-motion film about two brothers, Wendell and Wild. The brothers are demonic and decide to battle their enemy: a nun named Sister Helly.
Sister Helly uses two of her favorite students, Raul and Kat, to help her defeat the brothers. The only problem is the brothers are invisible to Raul. Kat has to play on the enemies’ side to get her friend to defeat the brothers.
This stop-motion film has received rave reviews, and the animation is reminiscent of the cult classic The Nightmare Before Christmas.
