Apple TV Review
Apple has been producing a streaming media player since 2007 when it first launched iTV. However, streaming had not quite yet gained the popularity it has today. Since then, Apple has come out with 5 generations of the Apple TV. Apple’s streaming device is sleek and elegant like most Apple products, but also comes with the Apple price tag.
Apple currently offers two models:
- Apple TV 4K (5th Generation)
- Apple TV 4th Generation
While you can still find 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation models on the market, Apple no longer sells them.
What Can I Access With Apple TV?
The 4th and 5th Generation Apple TV devices give users access to the Apple App Store which contains thousands of apps including streaming services. Here is a list of some of the most popular streaming apps available:
Apple Streaming Devices
The Apple TV is an elegant device that displays Apple’s signature simplicity. The devices are far from simple under the hood. Apple’s streaming players are some of the most powerful on the market but are more expensive than most competitors. Let’s take a look at the different Apple models and examine the pros and cons, features, and pricing.
Coming this fall you will be able to turn your iPhone or iPad into a remote. You can share photos, presentations, websites and more with AirPlay. You can also control your smart home which means you can control your hear or air conditioning or even shut the garage door.
Apple TV 4th Generation
Apple’s streaming device is a set-top box that connects to your TV via HDMI. It is a relatively small, hockey puck-shaped box that comes with a remote to operate. The device is powerful and has a robust ecosystem. The device is a 1080p resolution.
Apple’s 4th generation Apple TV is built on the tvOS operating system. tvOS is basically iOS with a few tweaks for television sets. Some advancement from the fourth-generation Apple TV includes better Bluetooth, HDMI, and more storage. The Apple TV App Store is also better and if you cannot find what you are looking for you can use AirPlay from your phone or tablet.
The remote features a trackpad with a few buttons and has a sleek design. The remote has Siri voice control. Siri can be used to search for entertainment. You can also use it to verbally skip forwards or backward. The Siri voice control works amazingly with Apple Music and App Store. The remote can be charged with the lightning charger and rarely needs to be recharged.
Apple TV is also great for games. It is not comparable to a PS4 or Xbox but it can just about any game found in the App Store with ease. Apple TV uses an A8 processor which is the processor that runs the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The device also features 2 GB of RAM.
On the back of the device, there are a few ports: power, HDMI, 10/100Mbit/s Ethernet, and a USB-C service port. Inside contains 802.11ac Wi-Fi which can run on the 5GHz band. This device also comes in 32GB and 64GB storage. Users who do not have many apps or games will find the 32GB more than sufficient.
Apple TV 4K
Apple was a little late to the party with this device. Major competitors had 4K devices on the market for almost a year longer. The 5th generation device improves on everything mentioned above. However, if you do not have a 4K TV then this really isn’t for you. Apple TV 4K features Dolby Vision HDR, which no other device at the moment has.
This device is fast. It features an A10X Fusion processor to handle the increased demands of higher resolutions. The device also comes in the 32GB and 64GB variations just like the 4th generation. This streaming player also contains dual-band WiFi which can be needed to support Ultra HD.
Coming this fall Apple TV 4K will be fully integrated with Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. This is the first streaming device to become certified. This is some of the most advanced sound experiences ever.
